1940s Wide Leg Trousers & Draped Rayon Blouse

Taken from authentic 1940s sewing patterns, this two-piece outfit captures the beautifully tailored yet effortlessly feminine style of the era.

As is so often the case with original vintage patterns, I have made a few careful adjustments to improve the fit for a modern figure while retaining the original 1940s character. I’ve also had some invaluable fitting help from a friend and former Miss Twinwood, whose knowledge and experience of authentic 1940s fashion has helped me refine the patterns while I’m temporarily unable to model and fit them myself.

The trousers are made in a lovely wool and cotton blend, giving them enough structure to hold that unmistakable 1940s wide-leg shape while still being comfortable to wear. They sit high at the natural waist, with an elegant extended waistband that really defines the waistline, traditional belt loops for adding your favourite vintage belt, a pressed front crease and deep turn-up cuffs at the hem.

The coordinating blouse is made in soft, flowing rayon, with the beautiful drape so characteristic of 1940s clothing. It features a gently shaped neckline with a slash opening towards the bust, finished with a delicate little tie at the front. Light, floaty and extremely easy to wear, it works just as beautifully tucked into these trousers as it does paired with skirts and other high-waisted separates.

Together, the bold red trousers and tropical floral blouse create a wonderfully playful vintage look while keeping the silhouette firmly rooted in the 1940s.
