Meet Alice — a playful 1950s-inspired day dress recreated from an original vintage pattern from my collection and carefully tweaked for a more flattering modern fit.
Alice has one of those wonderfully simple silhouettes that lets a fabulous fabric do all the talking. The fitted sleeveless bodice features a high, gently scooped neckline, sitting neatly into the waist before opening into a beautifully full gathered skirt for that unmistakable 1950s shape.
For the first Alice dresses, I couldn’t resist using these brilliant mid-century atomic prints. The starbursts, scribbled lines and pops of colour work perfectly with the clean lines of the dress and give it a really fun, authentic retro feel.
Alice also comes with a detachable matching belt, finished with an oversized statement bow at the back. Wear it for an extra dose of 50s sweetness, or leave the belt off for a simpler everyday look.

I also think Alice would be absolutely gorgeous made in gingham. I particularly recommend the larger-scale gingham from the fabric gallery, which gives the dress a really lovely vintage picnic/day-dress feel.
As always, Alice can also be made in any suitable cotton fabric from my Fabric Gallery, so you can create a completely different version to suit your wardrobe.
